Tourism Jobs Increase as Australia Visitor Count Rises

Tourism jobs in Australia increased by 11.7% from January to February

On a day-to-day basis, 120,000 jobs are available on Worldwide, 140 million people come to Indeed each month. The number of jobs available in a single search coupled with the volume of global traffic to the site gives Indeed unique insight into emerging job trends.

While the Australian employment market has been flat, our data shows that some sectors have seen significant growth. In particular, the last few months saw growth in the tourism industry, with job opportunities in tourism increasing 11.5% between January and February. This corresponds to a 14.4% increase in the number of visitors to Australia in those months (see chart above).

Summer tourism in Australia is typically strong, but this year was record breaking – 789,400 tourists visited during December 2013, an increase of 9.5% compared to December 2012. This momentum has continued into 2014, as 560,000 visitors came to Australia in January, up 8.7% from last year.
